Traverse City’s young indie-folk heroes The Accidentals performed more than 200 shows across the country last year. Where: Bell’s Brewery Eccentric Cafe, Kalamazoo Returning to Benton Harbor: The Accidentals play the Mainstage at 6 p.m. Masa’s voice has been said to have “the power to move mountains, or to move grown men to tears.” The band has been hitting some big-time festival stages the past couple of summers, and are coming to Bell’s fresh off the release of sophomore LP, “The Dip Delivers.”įellow Northwesterners Moorea Masa & The Mood, of Portland, will warm up the backroom stage. Melding vintage rhythm and blues, modern pop and ’60s soul, the seven-piece, fronted by Tom Eddy and fueled by “The Honeynut Horns,” has been deemed a band to watch by more than a few. The Dip has spent the latter half of this decade electrifying audiences from its hometown of Seattle and throughout the Pacific Northwest. Local Spins Wednesdays are presented by Local Spins, SpeakEZ Lounge, Perrin Brewing and WYCE, with free parking in the small city lot kitty-corner from SpeakEZ just to the south on Monroe Avenue NW or the Sixth Street Park lot just to the north of SpeakEZ Lounge. Friday and Old Dog Tavern in Kalamazoo at 10 p.m. (The band also plays Rockford Brewing at 9:30 p.m. Musicians like Django Reinhardt, Josephine Baker, Lee Hazelwood, and David Bowie have been a major influence, and Bowie’s guitar player and bandleader Gerry Leonard even played on their 2015 debut album, “Maybe The Saddest Thing.” The band’s distinctive sound makes for an unforgettable live show. Other compositions soar into a spaghetti Western and chamber-pop sound, paring back the band’s tendency towards rich layers to reveal Mainville’s inspired vocals. Their uptempo gypsy swing and baroque pop songs, accented with punchy horns, showcase a vaudeville flair.
